SMALLER FOOTPRINT, MORE SUSTAINABILITY

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is the main gas of the greenhouse gases which cause global warming. Sacyr is working to reduce the environmental impact of its activities, and the fight against climate change is one of its main issues.

For this reason, the infrastructures and services firm has registered its carbon footprint in the Register of Carbon Footprint, Offsetting and Carbon Dioxide Absorption Projects held by the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and the Environment (Ministerio de Agricultura y Pesca, Alimentación y Medio Ambiente, MAPAMA)

The carbon footprint measures the amount of greenhouse gases which are responsible for global warming that are emitted to the atmosphere. Sacyr thus contributes sustainability to its business model, showing its commitment as regards climate change.

The company has registered the data about its scope 1 (direct greenhouse gas emissions from sources owned by the company or controlled by it), scope 2 (indirect greenhouse gas emissions through energy, which includes emissions due to generation of the electricity purchased and used by the company) and scope 3 emissions (other indirect emissions, which correspond to the rest of the emissions due to the activities of the company, but which occur at sources which are not owned or controlled by the company).

According to the Ministry, the minimum scope to be registered must be scope 1 and 2, even though scope 3 emissions can also be registered, which is advisable to take on greater responsibility.

Fighting climate change, use of natural resources and the safety of biodiversity are the central pillars of the company's strategy.
