The talk about Blockchain by Jorge Ordovás, a specialist in IT, digital transformation and payment methods, was given a great reception by his audience on the first iFriday of the year.
These days who hasn't heard of Bitcoin, the cryptocurrency that threatens to transform the entire worldwide financial system with its focus on privacy and decentralisation?
For months, the news about its continual rises and falls in value have become customary, and not even the experts dare to predict its limit. But did you know that Bitcoin is based on an even more revolutionary concept, known as Blockchain?
Although Bitcoin is its most visible face, Blockchain offers incredible opportunities in all types of activities, and there is talk of it being the most significant technological change since the Internet appeared.
Jorge Ordovás is one of the top experts in Spain on this subject. He is a specialist in IT, digital transformation and payment methods, he collaborates with Telefónica on many different innovation projects and he founded NevTrace, the first Blockchain laboratory in Spain.
For Ordovás, Blockchain can be defined as “public accounting between peers that is maintained between a widespread network of computers and does not require any central agency or third parties to act as intermediaries”.
During his talk, he explained how we can benefit from Blockchain which, although development is ongoing, can have applications that go much further than the financial sphere: from issuing bonds to use in controlling logistics or energy usage, to financing startups or applications for the Internet of Things.
Blockchain is a tool that is set to revolutionise many aspects of the way we relate to technology.
