Sacyr Ingeniería e Infraestructuras has recently become a member of The Railway Innovation Hub, an entity whose mission is to become a global benchmark in railway innovation. Its ultimate aim is to promote technology and knowledge in the railway sector at international level. To this end, it works on generating collaborative R&D projects, commercialising technology and know-how, promoting entrepreneurship and providing specialised services. The Railway Innovation Hub also aims to become the sole interlocutor for access to the supply and demand of the rail sector worldwide.
As a company, at Sacyr we have made the decision to join this project in order, as Miguel Pérez from Sacyr Ingeniería e Infraestructuras explained, to “respond to the challenges set by one of our strategic customers, Adif”. Joining The Railway Innovation Hub will enable the company to be at the forefront of innovation in the construction sector and maintain permanent communication with other players involved in this process, such as customers, competitors and disruptive agents in the market.
The initiative of becoming a member of the Hub and similar platforms reflects, according to Martínez, the company's efforts to “boost the presence of Sacyr in leading innovation forums”. In addition, joining platforms with these characteristics enables Sacyr to form synergies to address the challenges that “we are posing to improve our internal capacities and our site working processes”, stated Miguel Pérez.
We will continue tackling these challenges as we have to date; this has enabled us to lead such important projects as the platform and track works for the tunnel connecting Sants and La Sagrera for the AVE high-speed train in Barcelona measuring 5.6 kilometres in length in total, beginning at the station in Sants and running to La Sagrera station. The tunnel, which at no point runs under buildings, crosses the Provenza, Avenida Diagonal and Mallorca roads, passing in front of the Sagrada Familia building. Its construction entailed a true #challengemet, to which considerable safety measures had to be incorporated due to the complexity of the project.
The company's commitment to establishing strategic alliances with associations that can place us at the leading edge of innovation and technology is a reality. Sacyr is also part of the Highway Technological Platform, the Construction Technological Platform, and the Technical Association of Ports and Coasts, and we are currently presiding the Seopan RD&I Committee. Together we are joining forces to continue meeting new challenges.
